What does a Creative Consultant do? Featured Project ~ Rushfrields Creative Arts and Wellbeing Village
Colin contacted me with a problem and an exciting idea. A set of disused garden showrooms were taking up space at his business, Rushfields Plant Centre. It seemed a great shame to tear them down, and a waste for them to sit there unused. So, inspired by Cobblestone Walk in Steyning where indepentant traders used small summer houses to sell their services, wares and arts and crafts, Colin asked me what I thought about the idea of turning his garden rooms into an Arts and Wellbeing Village. Of course, I thought it was a fantastic idea and a wonderful opportunity to put my skills to use again! I immediately set to work helping Colin present the idea and launch it.
The idea?! That this collection of garden rooms and chalets are to be dedicated to bringing local Creative Artists and Wellness Practitioners together with the general public. Rushfields has various rooms available for exhibitions, pop-up shops, stalls, classes and workshops, as well as one to one therapies. It is looking to attract photographers, artists, jewellers, illustrators, sculptors, painters etc. It is located just off the A23 at the foot of the South Down in a beautiful location, with a cafe and ample free parking. Maybe you would like to get involved and promote your arts or wellbeing business?
We coincided the launch with Artists Open Houses Festival in May, for which we became an official AOH venue! We thought that would be a fantastic way to launch the new village. And although Artists Open Houses only takes place in May, Rushfields Creative Arts and Wellbeing Village is a permanent facility that is planning on growing throughout the year. So if you a creative artist, wellbing practitioner or enthusiast for these things, do check it out, visit and find out how you can take part. It is a destination venue worth visiting.
This was a super fun project to help get started. These are some of the things I was able to do for Rushfields…
- Design posters, posts and publicity aimed at attracting artists and wellbeing practioners
- Find willing particpants
- Help Colin submit his advert and contribution to the Artists Open Houses
- Design the all the signage that would eventually be on the cabins at the village, that would be both fitting with the existing branding but different enough to be eye catching.
- Created doumentation to help the artists sign up
- Created posters and flyers aimed at promoting the launch event to the general public
- Offered advice on how Colin might improve the general visibility of the new village.
This was another great project that I am honoured to have been a part of. I wish Rushfields every success as they continue this over the coming year. I hope to offer some classes there myself soon, so keep an eye out for that. Or, sign up for my newsletter (at the bottom of this post) so that you can be notified directly when I hold an event!?
